Eirgrid Launches New GAA Campaign

EirGrid, the state-owned company that manages and operates Ireland’s national grid, has launched the second year of its partnership as official timing partner of the GAA with a new campaign centred on the idea of ‘Moments in Time’

The campaign will culminate with a club in each province winning a digital clock and scoreboard and to launch the initiative EirGrid conducted research amongst 300 GAA supporters to establish some of their best and most memorable GAA moments.

The importance of family was to the fore in terms of people’s memory of their first trip to Croke Park with 92% of GAA fans saying that their first time in Croke Park stood out as a childhood memory.

57 per cent clearly remembered that it was their father who brought them with only seven per cent saying it was their Mum.  That family connection remains important with 25 per cent saying their Dad was still their favourite person to go to a match with as opposed to 21 per cent with friends and 20 per cent as part of a family group.

The most popular pre-match rituals include getting breakfast together (27%), or having a drink together (27%) and enjoying a packed lunch together (23%). A measure of how times have changed is that only 2 per cent listed going to mass as a pre match ritual.

“We are very proud to support the GAA through our official timing sponsorship which began last year, and also as the official sponsor for the Under 21 All Ireland Football Championship over the last three seasons.”

“The GAA has given so many people such happy memories and we want to recognise and celebrate this through our EirGrid Moments in Time campaign. So we are delighted to be in a position to offer fans the chance to win a digital clock and scoreboard for their local GAA club, through a photo competition which will run throughout the Championship.”

“As our official timing sponsors, what better way to reward the GAA community than by once more offering four clubs the chance to win digital scoreboards for their own ground.

Fans can enter the competition for their club by posting photo’s of their ‘moment’ during the GAA season using #EirgridGAA on their Twitter or Instagram account and tagging their respective provincial board.
