Evanne Ní Chuilinn and Jacqui Hurley
RTÉ Sport has long been a strong advocate in practice as well as principle in putting women at the heart of sporting action.
Jacqui Hurley became the first woman to anchor World Cup coverage from Montrose in the summer of 2018 and with Joanne Cantwell moving to take on the main role on the station’s Sunday Game Live coverage there will be yet more opportunity for Ní Chuilinn and Hurley to stake their claim for more headline presentation slots.
Ní Chuilinn was a central figure in RTÉ’s coverage of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio and will be building up to do likewise when the games are held in Tokyo in 2020.
Hurley guides the Saturday Sports show on Radio One both have proven consistently that the idea of sport being a man’s game is utterly untrue.
They are pathfinders within broadcasting but they take their responsibility beyond that as well with both often seen out front and centre stage in hosting events from the 20X20 launch to the Swim Ireland #WePlay Conference.
50 Women of Influence in Irish Sport 2018 is brought to you by Sport for Business in partnership with our friends at Liberty Insurance.
Over the coming weeks, we will identify more leaders on and off the field of play. They will include those who are role models in terms of their abilities and what they have achieved. They will come from teams and individual sports, from sponsorship partners, from the media, from the administrative corridors of power and from places where influence may be subtle but no less powerful.
We want your voice in who the remainder should be. Who do you come across in your working life within sport, or in your position as an observer, that you feel deserves recognition.
Contact us today Quoting Women in Sport 2018 Nomination to let us know who you think should be joining us.
