Visitors to next week’s Irish Open at Carton House will be able to enjoy a ‘Taste of Dubai’ as part of Emirates’ second year as official airline partner of the event.
The sponsorship was the airline’s first commitment to Irish sport when they came on board at Royal Portrush in 2012. It is one of the world’s largest sporting sponsors and added to its portfolio this year by taking on title sponsorship of Real Madrid, and in Formula 1.
The ‘Taste of Dubai’ will include Arabic coffee and dates, and the airline will have course branding alongside others sponsors such as Golf Ireland, BMW
Emirates will also be part of the hospitality area, will be activating the sponsorship on site through information about Dubai and other destinations on its network, and will be supporting large plasma screens relaying information from around the course.
All four of Ireland’s major winners – Rory McIlroy, Padraig Harrington, Graeme McDowell and Darren Clarke will be taking part and it will be the first playing appearance for Paul McGinley since his being named captain of the European Ryder Cup team.
“Emirates’ official airline partnership with the 2012 Irish Open was our maiden sponsorship in Ireland and a strategic part of growing and cementing our brand presence in a new, emerging market,” said Margaret Shannon, country manager for Emirates in Ireland.
James Finnigan of The European Tour and commercial director of the Irish Open said: “This event has massive appeal, attracting audiences from all over the world, so it’s appropriate that a like-minded sponsor, with an extensive reach and a strong foothold in golf is onboard.”
