The AIB Club Championship Finals are taking place over the coming weeks and the sponsors have produced a special TV and social media ad for the occasion.
Using footage secured on the pitch at Parnell Park and in the dressing rooms after this month’s semi-final between Na Piarsaigh of Limerick and Slaughtneil of Derry, the theme of the ad is that in order to be tough enough to win you have to be tough enough to lose.
Na Piarsaigh won the game despite being down by three points at halftime and by two men within five minutes of the restart.
That tees them up for a Final between the winner of the last two seasons at this highest level of the club game, with Cuala of south Dublin coming through on the other side of the draw.
The match has been fixed as the second game at Croke Park, with Nemo Rangers taking on Corofin in the football final in the first.
There is an irony in two teams from south Dublin and Limerick, two of the biggest rugby strongholds in the country going head to head in their biggest moment of the year, just as Ireland and England will kick off the second half of a potential grand slam decider in the NatWest 6 Nations at Twickenham.
That will be a test of local vs national sporting loyalty at one level but of the streaming capacity of Croke Park’s wifi infrastructure at another.
