Irish sponsorship and sports marketing shone in a very bright spotlight in London last night as campaigns born and executed here landed top prizes at the prestigious European Sponsorship Awards.
Lidl Ireland were the winners of three awards, best newcomer, best sports sponsorship and the prestigious best overall sponsorship.
It is a just recognition of the talent that has gone into the campaign, the values that underpin it and the brilliant raising of a sport from shadow to sunlight while ticking all the metrics that need to be applied to a partnership.
AIB’s GAA campaign is another we have admired and championed and it was great to see the team land the Best Use of Social Media Award.
The hat trick of Irish winners came through Electric Ireland who won the best use of PR alongside agency Wilson Hartnell for the Team Ireland partnership at the Rio Olympic Games. It was a night when the Olympic Council could not stay out of the spotlight but this was also a tribute to a campaign that was pin point perfect in terms of message, visual appeal and promoting athletes.
We are privileged to work in an industry sector that is leading the way not only among the broader marketing community here in Ireland but on a global scale.
In previous year’s Ireland has taken home Awards in the hand luggage of the GAA, Electric Ireland, Liberty Insurance, Kellogg’s and more. They are never easily won against some of the powerhouse brands and agencies in the UK and across Europe.
To say we punch above our weight is an understatement, and the best thing is that those who have won for the past are already hunkered down to making bigger, better and brighter campaigns in the months and years to come.
To the teams of Lidl, Electric Ireland and AIB, with whom we have the privilege to work and the pleasure to reflect the magic they bring to sporting engagement, we offer our heartfelt congratulations.
Join us at a celebration of these campaigns and a guide to the future at next week’s irish Sponsorship Summit
