Mary McGuire has been appointed as the new Media and Communications Manager with Basketball Ireland.
Maguire has played a prominent role within the coverage of our Paralympians since stepping in to cover the maternity leave of Sinead Naughton at the start of this year.
She travelled to Rio with the team and has been a key player in building the profile and the recognition of athletes including Ellen Keane, Jason Smyth, Michael McKillop, Eoghan Clifford, Katie George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal, all of whom came home from the 2016 with medals.
Prior to joining Paralympics Ireland Maguire was an online journalist with Maximum Media and created a dedicated sports site on the influential her.ie.
She is a graduate of NUI Galway and holds a postgraduate diploma in Business Management and Marketing from DIT.
“In recent times Basketball Ireland has made good strides in its presence on-line and in social media not forgetting the traditional media organs,” said Basketball Ireland General Secretary Bernard O’Byrne.
“This appointment clearly signals our intention to increase that presence across all media platforms. Mary will undoubtedly drive this ambition and will be a great addition to our team.”
Maguire takes up her new position on Monday 3rd October we wish her the very best of luck as she furthers her career and the media reach of Basketball Ireland as it continues its growth at schools, club and once again at international level.
