Basketball Ireland has agreed a partnership with COVID Venues Ltd for a custom-made Covid-19 tracker app.
It will be supplied free of charge to registered clubs who apply to use the app. It will allow clubs to check-in players for training and matches.
“Basketball Ireland are constantly looking at ways to help our clubs deal with the effects of Covid-19,” said Chair Paul McDevitt.
“We are delighted to sign up with COVID Venues Ltd. This easy-to-use app will help alleviate the pressure on our clubs as they return to sporting activity.”
“We are happy to work with Basketball Ireland in simplifying Covid-19 contact tracing for clubs all across the country,” added Sean Murray, CEO of COVID Ventures.
“It will give players, coaches and spectators the confidence to return to basketball in a safe environment.”
There are similar tracking and contact tracing services being used across other sports with the GAA being one of the first to get there’s out and it has been developing over the course of the last two months. Clubforce have also been developing software as have Surpasspot.
The Covid Ventures app can be used on any device with an internet connection. Each club will be allocated a QR code. Players, coaches and other visitors to a venue can then be checked in with details uploaded prior to arrival and encrypted for data security.
