It has long been a frustration for clubs in the SSE Airtricity League that so many football supporters devote their energy and passion exclusively to clubs that they will only generally see on TV and not step around the corner to see live action on their doorstep.
Two weeks out from the start of the new season Bohemians have taken on the challenge to persuade more parents to introduce their kids to the buzz of a live game through a brilliant video and a social media campaign that is generating plenty of buzz of its own.
#TerracesNotTV has already been seen by over 30,000 in the first day if its release, that’s more than would walk through the turnstiles at an average weekend of domestic action but maybe this will be part of a tipping point for the game here.
It’s hearts and minds stuff and very much a winner as a result.
The video written by Bohemian FC’s voluntary commercial director Daniel Lambert, produced by Jamie Goldrick and funded by the Gypsies Supporters’ Trust.
“The aim of the video, and its push through Facebook and Twitter, is to encourage parents to get their children to enjoy the unrivalled buzz of watching live football from the terraces instead of being sat at home in front of a television,” said Lambert.
