Support for Club and National events

Hurling Centra GAACentra is to focus its GAA emphasis on the development of community events around the country aimed at promoting and developing the sport of hurling.

Big names including Henry Shefflin, Seán Óg Ó hAilpín, Damien Hayes, Eoin Kelly and John Mullane will be involved in hosting skills sessions for young fans at ten stadium events which will take place in both developing and well established hurling counties.

The theme of the programme bringing communities together to enjoy a celebration of hurling and family entertainment. The training will be followed by a free BBQ and a host of entertainment including face painting, music and prizes.

The activity will be the centrepiece of Centra’s fourth year of sponsorship of the All Ireland Hurling Championship.  The retailer, a sister company of Supervalu which holds the same position in football, sells tickets for GAA matches through the majority of its 460 stores in a valuable partnership for all sides facilitated by Tickets.ie.

Centra retailers will also be supporting their local GAA clubs and hosting their own community events, where local hurling stars will run the skills sessions.

“We are delighted to continue our sponsorship of the GAA All-Ireland Hurling Championship,” said Martin Kelleher, Centra Managing Director speaking at Croke Park on Wednesday. “Following on from a very successful season last year in which we had over 2,000 people attend our community events, this year we intend to further spread the GAA message by bringing events to developing hurling counties.”

“These events are a real celebration of hurling and community, bringing local families together to enjoy a fun-filled, action packed day out in their county stadium, with the added bonus of meeting some of the best GAA players of our time. Centra is at the heart of local communities across Ireland and just like the GAA, we recognise the need for the community to get together and support each other.”

“Centra have been extremely active in their promotion of hurling over the course of the last four years,” added GAA President Liam O’Neill.

“This is not only by having a presence at our big games but by bringing some of the biggest names in the game around the country and creating a real buzz amongst the next generation of big players.”

The Centra Community Events will run from Saturday June 15th to Saturday August 17th. Fans looking to attend can register online or through Centra social media. Local club events will be advertised in Centra stores.
