Bringing sport back to life is a multi team job. Providing the technology to manage virtual and real events has consumed the last three months for John Cleary, Managing Director of Limerick based Eventmaster who work as technology partners with Athletics Ireland and Cycling Ireland.
“Initially as many of the events were being cancelled we developed new functionality around the creation of virtual events.”
“That included looking at the real world element of virtual events including the delivery of t-shirts and medals, the collection of fees to aid fundraising and a virtual leaderboard.”
“Its not the same but it helped to bridge the gap.”
“Then the return to sport protocols and contact tracing became important so we were able to engage with members of Athletics Ireland and around 350 clubs to build the right level of contact tracking.”
We spoke about the ways in which the company has transitioned and built out more functionality.
“We spend 90 per cent of the project time working out how to handle the ten per cent of scenarios that could crop up.”
It is an interesting insight on the work that goes in behind the scenes to ensure a safe return to activity.
