It is one of the most uplifting sporting events of the year and last weekend the Annual Gaelic4Mothers & Others national Blitz took place in North Dublin.
Over 2,500 women, representing 120 clubs from every corner of the country descended upon the Naomh Mearnóg and St Sylvester’s GAA Clubs in Portmarnock and Malahide and while rain may have dampened their jerseys it did nothing to lessen their spirits.
This was the biggest staging of the event to date, following on from four provincial blitzes in the run up and it is an event that stands out as among one of the best potential sponsorship opportunities currently on the market.
The Blitz day was completely recreational, with all players and mentors asked to play in a fun and ‘fair play’ manner.
Family and friends on the sideline turned it into a carnival atmosphere and while no scores were recorded and no single winner named, it could be argued with justification that everyone won.
The 2FM Roadcaster was there broadcasting throughout the day, and Bokwa Ireland were on hand to oversee a memorable mass warm-up, one of the real highlights of the day.
The Gaelic4Mothers&Others programme is having a massive impact all over the country, with new clubs sprouting up at a phenomenal rate.
Today’s series of Daily Video’s sum up a little of the craic that was had on the day and if you don’t raise at least one smile, then you must be really having a bad day.
