Today’s Daily Video comes from the Olympic Federation of Ireland and marks the selection of canoeist Liam Jegou as our first officially confirmed competitor heading to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
There are different selection criteria for each sport and each event and National Governing Bodies need to nominate competitors once Ireland has qualified a place. There is a process to go through which each of the Governing bodies is aware of and there will be further announcements coming on a regular basis over the coming weeks and months.
As an example, Hockey Ireland will go through the same process of nominating a squad to fill the place which Ireland has secured in the Women’s Olympic Competition, as will Horse Sport Ireland for the equestrian teams and bodies like Athletics Ireland, Gymnastics Ireland, Swim Ireland and others in individual events.
The Olympic Federation of Ireland has chosen to highlight a number of those who will be competing through video content that they will be sharing across their own social media and marking each athletes and each sports achievement in getting to the Games.
This introduction to Liam Jegou is the first such content to be produced. It is a great way of getting to know something of athletes who will be unfamiliar for now to vast swathes of the population but who will now get their moment in the sun or in this case the water.
