The Guinness PRO14 Final and the Dublin 7s are joining forces to create a special Official Fanzone event ahead of the Championship Final on May 26 at Aviva Stadium.
What will now be a two-day ‘Festival of Rugby’ on the Friday and Saturday will first showcase the thrills of Sevens rugby with top men’s and women’s teams competing at Old Belvedere Rugby Club, then switch to the crowning of the PRO14 Champions around the corner at the Aviva Stadium.
There will be a dedicated family zone, appearances by Guinness PRO14 players with bars and a premium area while there will live music after the big game itself.
The Official Guinness PRO14 Dublin 7s Fanzone will kick-off on Friday evening and continue on Saturday.
Following on from the success of dedicated Fanzones at previous Finals, the innovative addition of the Dublin 7s tournament will provide fast-paced, end-to-end rugby on both days. Supporters of all ages will find plenty more on offer within the surrounding Fanzone with Guinness PRO14 Final Series Partners Honda, ROS Nutrition and the Times and Sunday Times all providing interactive experiences.
There will be four separate competitions with Open tournaments in Men’s and Women’s 7s, a Men’s Social team and a mixed Tag tournament also taking place.
“Sevens rugby had a really positive impact on my career and I’m sure there’s a lot of players in the Guinness PRO14 who will say that, too,” said Adam Byrne of Leinster who has represented Ireland at both 7’s and the 15’s Game.
“It’s great to see Sevens continuing to grow and it’s a great idea to bring it to more rugby fans on the weekend of the Final.”
“Sevens weekends or tournament deciders like the Guinness PRO14 Final always create special memories for rugby fans and this is going to be the perfect combination,” added fellow dual international Katie Fitzhenry.
“You never know what will inspire someone to pick up a rugby ball and having the Official Fanzone and the Dublin 7s come together is a great idea. Whether you’re playing or watching, it’s going to be a fun weekend.”
“After the success of our dedicated Fanzones at our previous Finals in Edinburgh and Dublin, we know that supporters have high expectations and it’s our job to exceed them,” said Aisling Delaney, Events and Sponsorship Manager with PRO14 Rugby.
“Bringing the Official Guinness PRO14 Fanzone and the Dublin 7s together will create an innovative Festival of rugby across two days in the lead-up to Final itself in Aviva Stadium.”
