Educating Sporting Stars in Business

Griffith College in Dublin has announced the third year of its popular Certificate in Dual Career Development (Sport).

The programme is a professional development course for high performance or professional sports people. Aimed at helping to develop business and communication skills to build confidence, the course has proven popular with a number of athletes over the first two years of it being run.

“I really enjoyed my time in Griffith College, meeting with great people from other sporting backgrounds such as horse racing and soccer,” said Leinster Rugby and Ireland U20 International Jordan Larmour who completed the course last year.

“I found the flexibility and content of this course to be really excellent and valuable to me”.

The highest profile graduate from the first year of the course was Michael Conlan who will now be putting some of the lessons learned to good effect in his new professional career.

“I had a great experience in Griffith College,” he said.

“The content was really beneficial and the lecturers were top quality.”

“Overall it has given me a real interest in learning again, something that was not a priority in my early boxing boxing career.”

Students study a number of topics including Social Media Management, Technology and Communication, Understanding Contracts and Negotiation, Developing your personal Brand, Personal Finance, Research and Study Skills

There are no exams; each topic is assessed through an assignment which is related in some way to each individuals personal and professional development.

“Those who have had the focus and single minded purpose to excel in sport are likely to excel in other areas of life as well and we are pleased to be giving them the help that is needed to prepare for their life after the final whistle or the last bell has sounded.”
