Premiership Rugby in England has announced that Zoe Clapp, the former Chief Marketing Officer of UKTV is to join them in a similar role.
Clapp will be joined by Mark Brittain who is coming on board as Chief Commercial Officer. Brittain formerly was Commercial Director with Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment.
The two new hires complete a strong management team led by Darren Childs who was CEO at UKTV until he joined Premiership Rugby in September last year.
The investment in management comes off the back of venture capital group CVC investing an estimated €230 million in the business to buy a minority stake last summer.
With all three bosses experience rooted firmly in media and entertainment there is a clear path being mapped out on how English Rugby’s club game will look to expand.
How that will impact on the sport in a wider context, and on the domestic game here through influence on the Guinness PRO14 and the Heineken European cup will be interesting to watch over the coming months and years.
During Clapp’s three year stint as head of Marketing at UKTV, she oversaw an increase in revenue of 66 per cent and a tripling of profits.
