PEXPO 2019

March 6 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Sport for Business is to become an official partner of the 2019 PE Expo taking place at DCU on March 6th.

The event brings together schools from across the country to highlight projects relating to sport, physical education and wellbeing across a range of different areas.

Developed in association with the Physical Education Association of Ireland, PExpo aims to develop the understanding of PE and sport among young people. It has been steadily growing through its first four years and over 1,000 students attended PExpo ‘18 with a record 150 projects entered.

“We were delighted with the move to DCU in 2018 which, after three years in Trinity Comprehensive gave us more space and flexibility,” said Paddy O’Reilly, Founder of the idea of the event and Chairman of the PExpo ’19 organising committee.

In 2019 there will be two new categories linked to the introduction of physical education to the Leaving Cert curriculum.

These will join categories that include the Power of Sport, Diet and Nutrition, Physical and Mental Well-Being, ICT and Photography, and Components of Fitness.

The event is backed by Dublin City Council, South Dublin Sports Partnership, Trinity College, Healthy Ireland, University of Limerick, Independent Newspapers and Chillax Teens as well as Trinity Comprehensive School, the Physical Education Association of Ireland and the Irish Primary PE Association.

Sport for Business will be involved in the next phase of growth for the event and will manage a number of talks for students, teachers and parents on the day covering areas such as careers in Sport, sports technology and the importance of sporting activity for young people.

We will incorporate individuals identified as part of our first cohort of 30 Under 30 Future Leaders in Irish sport to create a closer link to those working in the business side of sport and those who will be there on the day.

We will also produce a first publication covering different elements of physical education in schools which will be available on the day and sent to all secondary schools around the country.

“The introduction of PE onto the National Curriculum is in its early stages but is an incredibly important element in furthering the understanding among young people and families of the importance of physical activity,” said Rob Hartnett of Sport for Business.

“Helping to bring members of our community, from sport, business and education into closer contact with this movement, through this event, is exciting and we look forward to seeing how it develops.

“We have seen over 50 years how the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition has grown and the ambition for PExpo must be to follow in the footsteps of that event.

“We look forward to seeing what we can do to make that happen.”
