The FAI has launched a new Club and Country video series to recognise players attached to domestic clubs who have earned call-ups for Republic of Ireland teams.
With five different teams involved in 14 games over the next three weeks, The FAI’s content team visited four grounds around the country to interview players attached to either SSE Airtricity League or Continental Tyres Women’s National League clubs who are preparing for international action.
Noel King’s Under-21 squad includes four home-based players in Cork City defender Danny Kane as well as Derry City trio Rory Hale, Ronan Hale and Ronan Curtis, while U-19 Head Coach Tom Mohan also selected three players from domestic clubs in St Patrick’s Athletic goalkeeper Brian Maher, Bray Wanderers full-back Daniel McKenna (pictured above) and Wexford forward Aaron Dobbs.
Shamrock Rovers pair Kian Clarke and James Furlong are in Colin O’Brien’s U17 squad.
For Colin Bell’s Women’s U-17s, there are nine players involved who are signed with Continental Tyres Women’s National League clubs, including Shelbourne Ladies shot-stopper Rachael Kelly.
Dave Connell will include several home-based players for his Women’s U-19 squad for their three UEFA Elite Round qualifiers in Turner’s Cross, which are free for 2017/18 FAI Season Ticket holders to attend.
Here are a selection of the videos which are getting traction across social media and serve as a reminder that the game is so much deeper than the players who get the mainstream media attention.
