Fuelling Up for the Marathon

SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon 2014

GourmetFuel who provided food for Sport for Business members at this year’s ‘Business of Sports Science event in the RDS have been announced as official nutrition partner to the SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon.

The official race website will now have a new comprehensive nutrition advice section with a focus on what is needed to complete and compete in a Marathon.

Race participants will be provided with tailored event preparation meal plans to aid their training in the build-up, as well as recovery hampers after the big race is over.

Gourmet Fuel actually prepare food at their base in Sandyford, a different approach to others in the space including Nutritics who provide the detailed information to enable you to do the food preparation.

As a marathon runner you will burn approximately 3,000 calories during the race while also reducing fat levels, losing essential electrolytes and may end up substantially dehydrated.

“In order to prevent further damage to the body and to aid recovery, it is important to have a diet rich in the correct nutrients, well thought out hydration techniques and adequate energy,” said Emma Buckley, Director of Nutrition at GourmetFuel.

“We’re delighted to partner with the SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon and to be available to provide runners of all types with great advice, nutritious and healthy meals to aid their training and recovery.”

“We’ve designed these meal plans to complement training, fuel and nourish exhausted muscles and aid repair and recovery. We’ve done the hard work when it comes to nutrition so the runners only have to concentrate on the hard work of running.”

welcomed GourmetFuel® on board, saying:

“It’s great to have GourmetFuel as a partner this year, added Dublin Marathon Race Director, Jim Aughney.

“We all know how busy life can be, and by offering healthy meals that can be delivered to your door, it means participants can have that extra bit of time in the evening for training”
