The Gaelic Players Association and the Women’s Gaelic Players Association are to jointly fund three new scholarships available to Gaelic Games players at the National University of Ireland, Galway.
The programmes are a NUI Galway College of Business, Public Policy and Law Postgraduate Scholarship for both the WGPA and GPA, as well as a GPA/NUI Galway MBA Scholarship.
The addition of these scholarships is key to both player associations’ aim to have extensive reach across the country with education offerings from both organisations.
“We are delighted that NUI Galway has come on board with our scholarship options,” said Paul Flynn, CEO of the GPA.
“These scholarships offer our players the opportunity to further enhance their career prospects through participation in highly sought after graduate programmes, alongside maintaining their sporting pursuits.”
“We are delighted to be working with NUI Galway and the GPA to provide further scholarship options for our members,” added Maria Kinsella, Chairperson at the WGPA.
“Past scholarship recipients from the WGPA have achieved great success in their programmes, their careers and on the playing field and we are very proud of them. We’re looking forward to working with NUI Galway.”
“We recognise the relationship between academic performance, health and wellbeing and in recognition of this are delighted to welcome this partnership between the GPA, WGPA and the University,” concluded Professor John McHale, Dean, College of Business, Public Policy and Law, NUI Galway.
