RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta has unveiled its most extensive coverage ever of The Galway Races with the station coming live from the Festival for all the races from Monday to Thursday.
RTÉ 2 will also be broadcasting live from the racecourse, maintaining a 70-year relationship between the meeting and the broadcaster.
The Raidió na Gaeltachta programmes will be presented by Eibhlín Ní Chonghaile from the RnaG roadcaster, An Ródaí, which will be track-side in Ballybrit. Commentator Seán Bán Breathnach will be bringing listeners all the live action.
“My first trip to the Galway Races was in the early sixties and I’ll never forget it because the horse that won that year was Carraroe and everyone had been talking about it for weeks beforehand,” said Breathnach.
“My all-time highlight, though, from all my years going to Ballybrit so far was in 1996 when Life of a Lord won the Galway Plate for the second year in a row. It was magical, and I remember us dancing around Spiddal in the early hours of the following morning, and Charlie Swan saying that it was the biggest celebrations he’d ever seen.”
This year’s Festival looks like breaking all records for attendance with sales a remarkable 35 per cent up on last year already and all corporate hospitality completely sold out for the first five days.
Every race is sponsored with McDonagh Capital Investments, Betway, SCL Sales and Monami Construction on board with new partnerships this year as well.
It is one of the biggest crossover events of the summer between sport and business and Sport for Business sat down with Racecourse Manager Micheal Moloney earlier this year to find out more.
