There were plenty of champions of the horse racing world in Dublin’s Merrion Hotel last night for the launch of the 2017 Longines Irish Champions Weekend.
Now in its fourth year, the event will be staged across two days on Saturday, September 9 at Leopardstown and Sunday, September 10 at The Curragh, with a racing prize fund totalling over €4.6million across 16 races, 10 of which are Group races.
Sponsors across the weekend include KPMG, Jaguar, Quipco, Coolmore and many more in what is one of the bluest chip weekends in the Irish sporting calendar.
This year’s racing will conclude at the Curragh on the Sunday with reduced numbers due to the exciting ongoing development of the facilities over this year and next.
Curragh Racecourse CEO Derek McGrath confirmed last night that the 2018 Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby and the 2018 Champions Weekend would be taking place at the Kildare venue and that progress on the new development was proceeding well.
The weekend will attract bloodstock professionals and racing fans from around the world for what is one of the best weekend’s of racing across Europe.
