Following the announcement yesterday from the First and Deputy First Minister of the changes to the Northern Ireland Executive’s Coronavirus Recovery Plan,  the GUI and ILGU have confirmed that the Golf protocol will move to Step 2 from June 8th.

This brings the sport into line with the advances also now to be permitted in the Republic of Ireland.

With so many of our sports run on an island of Ireland basis, this will be an important factor in terms of sport playing a major part in morale as well as the practical side of ‘coming back.’

The next phase will permit clubs to include four-balls, at 12-minute intervals, on their timesheets. This phase will also see the re-introduction of competitive golf and all clubs have been issued guidance on running competitions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Outdoor group activities can also resume during this phase, and the process of reintroducing junior activity to golf clubs is included in the updated Protocol.

There remains a major responsibility on golf clubs and golfers to ensure that the sport is conducted safely and responsibly.
