Swim Ireland have announced Gourmet Fuel as its new Official Nutrition Partner. The relationship will primarily focus on the Rio 2016 Focus Squad.
Gourmet Fuel presented their innovative and tailored approach to meal preparation at the Sport for Business and BT sponsored Business of Sports Science event at the RDS earlier this year and proved a big hit among the sporting and business audience gathered there to hear about latest developments and meet with Paul McGinley.
Described as a significant six figure investment the partnership is well timed to ensure the highest possible level of nutrition for a group Irish swimmers and divers trying to achieve their Olympic dream.
The involvement will go beyond the actual food itself, which is all prepared and delivered to the competitors on an individual basis, and extends to tailored meal plans, consistent monitoring and continual education.
“As a health and nutrition company, it is a dream come true to work with Swim Ireland and the High Performance athletes in advance of the Olympic Games in Rio and to provide helpful advice and services to swimmers around the country,” said Robert Buckley, Managing Director of Gourmet Fuel.
“We understand the extraordinary demands on a swimmer’s body and energy requirements for performance and for day after day of training. Nutrition is a huge aspect of an athlete’s performance and indeed their recovery.”
“We look forward to helping improve the chances of success in Rio and closely working alongside Swim Ireland, the support team at the Institute of Sport and the athletes themselves, by managing this part of the squad’s Olympic preparations and providing them with delicious, nutritious and convenient meals. A lot of them.”
“This is a fantastic deal for Swim Ireland and their athletes,” added John Treacy, incoming interim CEO of Sport Ireland.
“We’re delighted to see an innovative Irish company, so closely linked with sport and performance, getting involved in helping fuel these athletes and also promoting a culture of healthy nutrition at a grass-roots level.”
“Elite international swimming is one of the toughest sports in the world in terms of the physical demands it places on our athletes, the level of training required and the myriad of factors which go into producing top performances,” said Sarah Keane, CEO of Swim Ireland speaking at the launch.
“This partnership takes care of one whole major factor for our athletes – nutrition – which we hope will have a knock on effect in other areas – recovery, time management and injury prevention.”
“Our approach has been a holistic one and we are looking to complete all the steps which will unlock consistent international success.”
“Gourmet Fuel and their outlook very much fit into that approach and we are delighted to be working with them to help make a large step towards that end goal.”
Gourmet Fuel is the first company of their kind in Ireland to provide entire precision focused meal plans for athletes. It also provides personal fitness plans to individuals and has a private gym at its base in Sandyford, County Dublin.
