Padraig Harrington was out and about at the K Club yesterday, helping to launch The K Club Irish PGA Pro-AM competition on the Ryder Cup Course.
The tournament will run over the 5th and 6th of May and entry is now open for teams which will be made up of three amateurs and one Irish PGA Professional.
The action will take place on both the Ryder Cup Course and The Smurfit Course and there will be a prize fund of €20,000 for the professionals.
As is denoted by their status the value of the Amateur prizes won’t be of the same cash value but in terms of kudos, there will be fewer better titles to win over the summer.
Over 120 amateur golfers will play in the tournament alongside some of Ireland’s leading Irish PGA Professionals and there is a strong line up of corporate sponsors as well, including Cairn PLC, Crystal Air, MCM Engineering, Irish Golfer Magazine, Newbridge Silverware and TLC Nursing Homes.
“The owner of The K Club, Dr Michael Smurfit, has been one of the most ardent and loyal supporters of the PGA in Ireland and his support and the support of all the team at The K Club is essential for the continual growth of golf in this country.,” said Padraig Harrington.
“The K Club has two of Europe’s most stunning courses, it’s always a pleasure to play here.”
“We are really looking forward to welcoming all the Irish PGA professionals along with our members and guests to participate in the event and we look forward to hosting this exciting tournament,” said Sharon Smurfit, Director of Golf at The K Club.
“We are also very pleased to support Irish golf through the PGA in Ireland and are really delighted to have the many sponsors on board who have helped support this competition.”
Teams cost €1,350 and the price includes golf on both courses, food on arrival each day, a BBQ on the first evening and a gala dinner on the second day.
