Hockey Ireland has signed a 12 month partnership with law firm Eugene F Collins to make them official sponsors of Ireland’s U16, U18 and U21 girls’ hockey teams.
As the primary sponsor of the teams, Eugene F Collins will provide support and resources as the players continue their season with an eye to the future European Championships and upcoming international tournaments.
The sport is still without an overall partner for the Senior Women’s and Men’s teams despite both being deep in preparation for their respective World Cups later this summer.
The Women’s team will have a very high profile tournament at London’s 2012 Olympic stadium meeting England, the US and India in the group phases between July 21st and 29th.
The Men’s team face Australia, China and England again in India at the end of November into December.
Neither have had an overall sponsor in recent years since the departure respectively of Electric Ireland and BAM.
Sponsorship of the under age teams though could be a first step back towards securing greater attention from the corporate community.
Highlighting the importance of the sponsorship, Senior Women’s Head Coach Graham Shaw said “It is great to have the support of Eugene F Collins for our girls junior age group teams.”
“Many of these young players will continue on to become full senior internationals and compete in major tournaments like the World Cup and the Olympic Games. The support of Eugene F Collins will greatly help the programmes and training requirements of the teams, and it is a vital investment into the future of international female hockey in Ireland.”
“As an Irish owned and run organisation, we want to play our part in supporting young Irish talent, both as regards those we hire and develop within our firm professionally, but also in the wider community.”
“This sponsorship allows us to make a very real difference to these teams and help them achieve their full potential in the upcoming tournaments and indeed in the future with an eye to Olympic qualification. 2018 marks the start of an exciting journey for these teams and as an organisation we’re excited to see how these teams progress and grow.”
“We are delighted to have Eugene F Collins as a valued partner and sponsor of our girls junior age group teams,” added Jerome Pels, CEO of Hockey Ireland.
“Teamwork is a core value of Eugene F Collins and we are thrilled to be working with a partner that understands the commitment and dedication of these players. It is an exciting year for hockey at all age groups; with several tournaments in the pipeline for junior teams and of course a World Cup for both of our senior teams, there will be plenty of hockey for the public to watch and support over the coming months.”
