Ireland Team to Face World Champions

The Republic of Ireland Women’s National Team will face the United States of America in the first fixture of the World Cup winners’ five-game victory tour.

The game will take place at the 91,000 capacity Pasadena Rose Bowl on the evening of Saturday, August 3rd. It will be the first match the USA team, with its collection of global superstars will play since lifting the trophy in front of a record global viewing audience on Sunday.

It will be the fifth time that the USA Women’s National Team has played at the famous Rose Bowl, and the first for 17 years. They won the 1999 version of the Fifa Women’s World Cup there two decades ago.

In 2015 the US kicked off their Victory Tour against Costa Rica at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh and drew a crowd of 44,028. Who knows how high that number will go next month but it is safe to say that it will be the largest attendance to ever watch the Republic of Ireland team.

US Soccer also revealed yesterday that the Victory tour would be sponsored by Allstate a company with a strong Irish connection through being one of the largest private-sector employers in Northern Ireland with 2,000 staff.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to be asked to go over to play the USA,” said Republic of Ireland Women’s team Captain Katie McCabe.

“It will be great preparation for us to test ourselves against the best in the world ahead of our European Championships campaign. Also, it will be good to get the squad back together after not having seen each other in a while. It will all help towards getting us ready for the game on September 3rd.”

The team face Montenegro in Tallaght Stadium on September 3rd in the opening game of Qualification for Euro 2021 which takes place in England. That game will be televised live on RTÉ. The match in California will be shown live on ESPN but will not kick off until 3 PM Irish time.

“To play the greatest team in Women’s international football in the Rose Bowl in front of a huge crowd is going to be a great test for our team,” said FAI General Manager Noel Mooney.

“We have confidence that Ireland can compete well and hopefully dampen the party mood there a little with a big performance and result.”

“We may or may not have our new manager in place but we believe that this will be a great experience for the squad and they will do themselves proud.”

There is an exclusive pre sale period for tickets bought using Visa Cards which runs for 24 hours from this Friday, July 12th. Visa is the official payment technology partner of US Soccer.
