Ireland’s Olympians – Patricia Heberle

To mark the Olympics that would have been taking place in Tokyo right now we have joined up with the sponsors of our Olympics Coverage on Sport for Business Indeed, to bring to life a series of interviews with those who would have played a part in Team Ireland’s participation.

Over the time we should have been enthralled by their exploits we are meeting the athletes, the officials, the support teams and others who would have played their part in the Olympic story of 2020 and will do so again in 2021.

In the latest interview this morning, we meet Patricia Heberle, an Olympian herself from her hockey days with Australia and now Chef de Mission for Team Ireland.

It is her job to make sure that everything which can be controlled is so, anything that can go wrong is mitigated against and that athletes arrive in Tokyo with the best possible chance to give their best.

It is a role of immense complex project management which became a lot tougher when the pandemic struck, as we discover with Patricia in the interview below…

Look back on our earlier interviews in this series with Nhat Nguyen, Chloe Watkins, Shane Ryan, Sinéad Galvin, Cian O’Connor, Róisín Upton, and Heather Boyle
