The Irish Amputee Football team will compete at the first-ever Amputee Football European Championships in Turkey, with the first game against Russia later today.
In the opening game last night hosts Turkey beat Germany 7-0.
England and Greece are in the same group as Ireland and all of the games will be streamed live throughout the tournament on a dedicated website here.
The Irish team includes Christy McElligot who starred in RTÉ’s Operation Transformation.
The Irish team were helped in their preparations by a financial contribution and goods towards fundraising efforts by Beko Ireland.
The money was used towards a training weekend which took place at the University of Limerick.
“We would like to wish Christy and all the Irish team the very best of luck in the upcoming European Championships,” said Shane Kelly, Head of Sales and Marketing for Beko Ireland.
“Beko were thrilled to be able to support the team in their preparations and look forward to watching the team’s progress throughout the tournament.”
The FAI, Bank of Ireland and SSE Airtricity are among the more than 220 organisations that play an active part of the Sport for Business community.
On Thursday, November 23rd we will host Sport for Social Good, an in-depth look at how sporting organisations and businesses can come together for a better society.
