15 coaches and 30 drivers will set out from Monaghan today for London where they will form part of the fleet of vehicles transporting athletes around the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Matthews Coach Hire has been awarded a contract to provide transport services around the games.  It is a major coup for the company which was founded just one year before the Atlanta games of 1996 and which operates a total fleet of 35 coaches.
The award was welcomed yesterday by Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Leo Varadkar who said, “The economic spin-offs of the Olympic Games become apparent when we see an innovative company like Matthews flying the flag for Ireland.”
The Olympic Council of Ireland said last night that this was the latest in a series of Olympic contracts won by Irish companies with a value of more than €250 million.
