Irish in Action in Olympic Boxing

The Olympic Boxing Qualifiers will take place again today at the Copper Box Arena in London’s Olympic Park but they will do so behind closed doors.

The action is being streamed live on the Olympic Channel and we will be able to watch five of Ireland’s finest step between the ropes.

Aidan Walsh will take on Pavel Kamanin of Spain in the 69 KG weight category. Michael Nevin will fight Pas der Van of the Netherlands at 75 KG. Both will be fighting for a place in the Last 16.

Already at the stage are Brendan Irvine (52 KG), Carly McNaul (51 KG) who takes on Team GB opponent Charley Davison, and Kurt Walker (57 KG).

Irvine and Walker will book their place for the Olympics with a win as the top 8 in the Qualifiers go forward by right.

In McNaul’s case, there are six places available so she will not quite be there but will have taken a significant step along the way.

The early session in both rings gets underway at 11:55 with the evening session taking place at 17:55.

McNaul is first up, the second fight in Ring B in the afternoon session.

She will be followed by Walsh who is scheduled to be the eighth bout in Ring A also in the afternoon.

Nevin is the final bout scheduled for the same ring in the Afternoon.

Irvine is third up in the evening session in Ring A, while Walker will conclude the Irish interest, fighting eighth in the same ring in the evening session.
