Ireland’s role at the top table of international sport has been long and storied and it continues today with Irishman Gar Holohan one of the leading lights in a new memorandum of understanding signed yesterday between the World Squash Federation and the professional Squash Association.
The two bodies have created a united front to push for admission to the Olympic programme and to create a stronger commercial and broadcast model to move the sport to the next stage.
Holohan is President of Squash Ireland but also Vice Chair of the World Squash Federation and a main architect of the new accord.
He is also behind the hosting in Dublin next month of a major conference on international leisure facilities attracting speakers including Marie Sallois Dembreville, the International Olympic Committee Director Corporate Development, Brand & Sustainability and Professor Peter Taylor regarded as one of the world’s leading experts on sports economics.
