O’Neill’s has long been the default choice for counties and clubs but they have been joined at inter county level in recent years by Azzurri Sports based in Waterford and at club level by Intosport in Kilkenny, Masita in Meath and KC Leisure in Westmeath.
The playing kit which Kukri will offer will be made in Ireland and will be fully bespoke – offering thousands of design options in a variety of different fabrics.
Kukri’s factory in Ireland is based in Lisburn, Co. Antrim. The deal announced yesterday will lead to a doubling of staff there to as many as 30 over the next year.
The company signed a five year extension to its partnership with Ulster Rugby this summer and is a partner of Cork Ladies Football, Glentoran FC and the Belfast Giants Ice Hockey team, as well as others in hockey and cricket. In international terms it provides kit for 76 different sports and many thousands of individual teams.
“This is huge for us and we are very proud to be associated with the GAA – one of the most influential sporting bodies in the country,” said Terry Jackson, General Manager of Kukri Ireland.”
“We already have long established partnerships with numerous sporting organisations here in Ireland including Camogie and Ladies Football and this is the icing on the cake.”
