Entries are now open for the second year of the Interfirms Ladies Football competition.
The tournament came to life for the first time last year when AIB emerged as victors on a sun-drenched day in Portmarnock.
The tournament included teams from Accenture, Arthur Cox, Lidl, Pramaceria, Pallas Foods, Intel, The Irish Prison Service and An Garda Síochána.
This year’s event will take place earlier, on Saturday, May 26th and there will be a recreational as well as a competitive blitz for firms wishing to enter.
The growth of Ladies Football in the public consciousness with over 46,000 attending last year’s TG4 All Ireland Final, the reaction to the Blues Sisters documentary on RTÉ and Lidl’s promotion of the sport around the country has been exceptional over the past 12 months.
That is already filtering through to record numbers of young girls playing the sport in clubs and the hope is that the attraction will be just as strong for colleagues and teammates.
The LGFA is recommending that teams get to know each other by undertaking a number of training sessions in advance and have plans which they are making available to team leaders in companies as they register.
Team sport has for so long been the main preserve of men and while Tag rugby, in particular, has opened up social sport for all, the rise of Football should see this tournament go from strength to strength as well.
The entry form to get your company involved can be seen here and we look forward to seeing you there on the day.
