The Ladies Gaelic Football Association is to broadcast one game from each round of the Lidl Ladies Football National League on Facebook.
In a new departure, it has also been confirmed that the Lidl All-Ireland Post Primary Schools Senior A Final, which is pencilled in for the weekend of March 30/31, will also be available to viewers LIVE on Facebook.
The Facebook Live coverage will begin next Sunday – and the LGFA will announce full details of the selected Round 1 fixture before the weekend.
It will be around the games that are scheduled in for live coverage on TG4 but both the broadcaster, the association and Lidle have formed a close working partnership over the past two years and the move is seen as very much of a positive by all sides.
“We are hugely enthused by the prospect of seeing even more of the action from the Lidl National Leagues via our Facebook Page, while the addition of LIVE coverage of the Lidl PPS All-Ireland Senior A Final is another exciting development,” said LGFA President Marie Hickey.
The announcement comes on top of the news we broke yesterday of a new €250,000 initiative for secondary schools around the country which went live yesterday.
159 Post-Primary Schools across the country will receive jerseys and equipment for their teams.
Selected schools will then go on to take part in a brand new #SeriousSupport programme delivered by LGFA inter-county players, which aims to show girls the benefits of playing sport both on and off the pitch.
We will follow both of these campaigns with interest over the coming weeks and months and will have interviews in the next two days with Aoife Clarke, Head of Communications at Lidl and Helen O’Rourke, CEO of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association on the impact the partnership has had.
We will also take a look back on a special social media initiative which Lidl and the LGFA ran with Donabate Community School yesterday.
