Joseph O’Brien’s all-conquering yard in Piltown, County Kilkenny was the spectacular venue for the launch of the 2019 Leopardstown Christmas Festival yesterday morning where the entries for all seven Grade 1 races and the Paddy Power Chase were released.
The Festival is one of the best-attended sporting events of the year with 56,322 heading to the South Dublin venue last year.
It is a major highlight on the Dublin Christmas social scene and delivers no fewer than seven races with a prize fund of between €100,000 and €200,000.
Savills, Paddy Power, Squared Financial and the Racing Post are among the key sponsors who support the Festival.
This year’s feature on the fourth day will be sponsored by Matheson, the international law firm who have taken over the race from Ryanair.
The reigning Cheltenham Gold Cup Champion Al Boum Photo has been entered in the Savills Chase on the third day, alongside the favourite for this year’s race Kemboy whose registration problems are now behind him allowing for his entry in a selection of major races over the winter.
“We are delighted with the quality of entries once again for the Leopardstown Christmas Festival,” said Vicki Donlon, Marketing, Sponsorship and Events Manager at Leopardstown.
“We are grateful for the support of the owners and trainers from Ireland and the UK and look forward to an exciting four days of sporting action.”
“The addition of international law firm, Matheson, to our valued existing partners of the Christmas Festival is fantastic and we look forward to enhancing our strong relationship with them.”
“The Leopardstown Christmas Festival is a highlight of the National Hunt racing calendar,” added trainer Joseph O’Brien.
“It is a target for many of our horses and we look forward to supporting it.”
