Lisa and Leona Maguire start their professional golf careers today and rarely if ever have two young players kicked off with such a strong line up of commercial backers,
As twins, they are perhaps used to things happening in twos but yesterday afternoon within an hour of each other announcements landed that they were signing up two of Ireland’s major commercial backers as sponsors.
First up was KPMG Ireland today announcing a global sponsorship agreement which will see them wearing the KPMG logo on the front of their caps during all of their golf-related appearances, beginning this week at the Shoprite LPGA Classic in New Jersey.
“We are delighted to support both Leona and Lisa as they embark on their professional careers, said Shaun Murphy, Managing Partner of KMPG in Ireland.
“We are committed to investing in young Irish talent in a range of areas and encouraging exceptional people to fulfill their potential.”
“It’s a huge honor and a privilege to sign with a firm that is so globally recognized and reflective of our personal values like KPMG,” said Leona Maguire.
“A lot of amateurs making the jump to the pro game struggle with getting sponsors. To have a sponsor like KPMG believe in both Lisa and I is a huge confidence boost.”
This relationship is part of KPMG’s sports sponsorship platform, which began when the firm reached a global sponsorship agreement with Phil Mickelson (USA) in 2008. KPMG later entered into a sponsorship agreement with LPGA golfer Stacy Lewis (USA) in 2012, and has since expanded its global brand ambassadors to include fellow Irish professional golfer Paul Dunne, Klara Spilkova (Czech Republic), Mariah Stackhouse (USA), Olafia Kristinsdottir (Iceland), and Maverick McNealy (USA). KPMG is also the title sponsor of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, a major on the LPGA Tour.
An hour later and it was the turn of Allianz to make their announcement.
The Maguire sisters join a major league line up of Allianz brand ambassadors including former Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley, Paralympic athletes Jason Smyth, Ellen Keane and Michael McKillop and world record runner Sinead Kane.
Allianz’ support of sport in Ireland also includes the Allianz Football and Hurling Leagues, Allianz Cumann na mBunscol and the Allianz World Para European Swimming Championships.
“We are delighted to support Leona and Lisa as they begin their much anticipated professional golfing careers,” said Sean McGrath, Allianz Ireland CEO.
“Allianz exists to facilitate people to live their lives to the fullest, who knows what the future holds for Lisa and Leona but we are delighted to play a role in the next chapter of their promising careers.”
“I can’t thank Allianz enough for their support and I am looking forward to working with them as I start my career in professional golf,” added Lisa Maguire.
The pair also have Puma Golf Clothing and Ping on board and are the first golfers to be managed by Modest! Golf, the agency established by former One Direction singer and now successful solo artist Niall Horan.
If the Maguires can carry on their level of achievement in amateur golf and in the commercial world in the same manner as they have started they could end up winning in New Jersey by ten strokes.
We wish them the very best of good luck.
