The decision was taken by the FAI Board with an obvious need to err on the side of caution when the results of the final report were submitted to it.
Mazars had been commissioned last year to investigate matters by the FAI at around the same time as Sport Ireland commissioned Norther Ireland consultancy KOSI to do similar.
That report was similarly passed to the authorities and therefore not available to be published back before Christmas.
Time seems to have both speeded up and stood still during the pandemic lockdown but the wheels of justice and the need to gain a clean bill of health for the future of the FAI grind on and with no public comment yet made available, and no media in a position to report on leaks or speculation, the road becomes a little longer again.
