McCoy and Power for One-Zero

The Line up for One-Zero in Dublin on October 17th continues to expand with a sparky conversation expected between the world’s all time greatest jump jockey AP McCoy and well-known bookmaker Paddy Power.

McCoy’s list of winners is unequalled and unlikely to be matched long into the future. He was Champion Jockey in Britain every year of his 20-year professional career spanning from 1995 to his retirement in 2015.

Among those thousands of winners, McCoy won all of the sport’s biggest races including the Cheltenham Gold Cup, the Champion Hurdle, the Queen Mother Champion Chase, the King George VI Chase and the most famous race of them all, the Aintree Grand National, which he won riding Don’t Push It in 2010.

It was his fifteenth attempt to win the race.

AP McCoy will be interviewed in a fireside chat format by bookmaker Paddy Power and they will cover his glittering career, his transition into retirement and his role as a television pundit.

McCoy’s achievements on the racecourse have been widely recognised off it. He became the first jockey to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2010 and won the RTÉ equivalent in 2013. He was knighted in 2016 by the Queen of England in her New Year’s Honours list for services to racing.

“As a sports fan I enjoy talking about sport – whether that’s races or matches,” said McCoy announcing his presence on the bill alongside Frank Bruno, Paul Merson and Hope Solo with more big names still to be announced and a series of discussions among industry leaders exploring the future of sport from technology to diversity, player data and the media.

“There are always thousands of different perspectives and I think that’s the beauty of sport; we all experience it differently.”

“It will be great to share my experiences at Croke Park and to hear the different perspectives on the changing world of sport.”

“AP McCoy is one of the greatest sportsmen ever, it’s an honour to get the opportunity to pick his brains, even though I’ll feel very inadequate by the end of the session,” added Power.

“I know he’s incredibly driven, but I want to know why and how he could keep his hunger to be Champion Jockey for twenty consecutive years.  Besides, he cost us bookies a fortune over the years so I can’t wait to get my hands on him.”
