It’s all about timing in sport as in life and you have to tip your hat to Munster Rugby for the timing of their renewal of five and ten year tickets at Thomond Park on the eve of a magical weekend for the province.
Victory over Toulouse in front of a capacity 26,200 crowd was followed up by confirmation that Saracens will be coming to Ireland for the semi final of the European Champions’ Cup in three weeks time.
That game will take place at the Aviva Stadium because of capacity requirements at this stage of the competition and it brings onto the horizon the genuine prospect of another All Ireland Champions’ Cup final in May, and the first between Leinster and Munster.
Who could have imagined that twelve months ago when Ireland was absent from the quarter final stage of the tournament?
All of a sudden the need to be there to support Munster becomes as compelling as it was in the glory days of O’Connell and O’Gara. With ten year tickets starting at less than €4,000 and instalment payment plans in place the demand is likely to be high.
“Munster Fans have supported and watched this great club grow in the best rugby stadium in the world, with players past and present thriving alongside them,” said Munster Rugby Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus.
The new packages, the first time for renewal since the stadium was redeveloped in 2007, have been built up through consultation with fans over the past 12 months.
“In listening to customers throughout 2016 we believe we have designed new packages which work for them and give them the exibility that suits their needs.” said Munster Rugby CEO Garrett Fitzgerald.
“A new Premium 10 Year Ticket will give exclusive bar access along with other additional benefits for the first time, while we’ve also introduced a 5 Year Ticket to cater for those who wish to plan for the shorter term.”
The magic of sport is anticipation, the driver of business is demand. It looks like Munster has landed on the mark for both.
