The Beacon Hospital in Sandyford has launched a new Sports Lab with a focus on the treatment and the prevention of sports injuries.
The Lab is headed up by Alan Byrne who is also the Chief Medical Officer of the FAI and was out front in the campaign for cardiac testing in young people supported by Brendan Carroll over the past two years.
The Lab has a wide range of equipment and access to specialists and is part of a growing specialisation in sports medicine at every level, not just for the elite high performers.
Construction is underway at a major expansion of the Santry Sports Clinic which has led the way for the past decade and a half.
Sport for Business will be taking a detailed look at the world of Sports Medicine in the coming weeks.
