Para Gold Rush One More Time

The Final day of competition at the European Para Athletics Championships in Berlin saw more Gold for Ireland when Niamh McCarthy won in the Discus event.

This was the sixth Gold for Ireland at the games, with three more Bronze exceeding by 50 percent the target of gaining six medals which had been laid out at the start of the week.

The sixth Gold meant that Ireland finished 11th on the medal table, with Jason Smyth once more the star of the Games having won double Gold in the 100 and 200 metres.

Ireland’s other medallists were Noelle Lenihan, Orla Barry, Greta Streimikyte, Orla Comerford (2 bronze) and Jordan Lee.

It rounds out a magical two weeks for Paralympics Ireland following on from hosting the Allianz European Para Swimming Championships.
