The Red Bull Cliff Diving World series came to Dublin at the weekend and was live streamed around the world on Red Bull TV.
A record crowd over the weekend of 85,000 gathered at and around Dun Laoghaire Pier though the cold water conditions meant that the competition did not count toward the World series standing.
To us, we were happy that the sun was shining and the skies were blue but for the international divers, it was deemed to be a little chilly.
The water temperature in the Philippines for the first round of the series was 28 degrees but Dun Laoghaire Harbour was as low as 12 degrees.
Hitting the water off the equivalent of an eight-story building, that drop makes a difference and so the decision was taken to proceed towards naming a Dublin champion but not to have the competition scores count towards the final year-end score.
Red Bull will have to consider the balance then of that risk again applying in future years as against the benefits of bringing it into the city and drawing a much larger crowd than would normally be able to gain access to it.
The natural amphitheatre using the West Pier as a stadium was dramatic and the pictures with Howth, Dun Laoghaire, the Dublin Mountains and the Irish Sea as a backdrop will certainly have made for a dramatic show of video content.
Here is a replay of the show that was streamed live last night.
