Schools Rugby Back in Winter Spotlight

The 2020 Bank of Ireland Leinster Rugby Schools Cup draw took place at Bank of Ireland, Ballsbridge, last night, with ties drawn in the Senior Cup, Vinnie Murray Cup, Junior Cup and Fr Godfrey Cup.

The Senior Cup is scheduled to begin on Sunday, 26 January, with the Junior Cup kicking off soon after on Monday, 3 February.

The Finals of the tournament will take place on St Patrick’s Day.

Matches within the tournament are among the best-attended school sports games you could imagine with streams of past pupils heading out of Dublin’s most gleaming office blocks to Energia Park to cheer on those who are following in their footsteps.

St Michael’s College are the defending champions having won the tournament for the third time in their history last year.

Blackrock College won the last of their 69 titles in 2018 and before than Belvedere College won back to back titles in 2016 and 2017.

The last team to win from outside Dublin was Cistercian College in Roscrea which despite having an address in Tipperary actually has its entrance gates in Leinster and so plays in this rather than the Munster equivalent.

Full fixture details will be confirmed later this week but for those looking to get themselves ready for a January outing in their old school scarves the full first-round fixtures are:
