For those who attended any of the schools last night’s draw for the Leinster Schools Rugby tournaments will have sparked memories of days gone by and plenty of oneupmanship on social media.
The standout tie of the Bank of Ireland sponsored tournaments was probably in the Junior Cup where St Michaels and Blackrock College have been drawn together in the first round.
The effort, energy and preparation that goes into these teams is immense and there will be a special focus to training sessions over Christmas with that match looking.
Bank of Ireland held the draws in its new style branch on Grand Canal Square in an example of how these branches can be used by the local sporting and business communities as much more than a location to pay in cheques and take out cash.
Bank of Ireland extended its partnership with Leinster Rugby and with the schools tournaments earlier this year and are now on board until 2023.
There was no shortage of star power in the branch last night with Leinster Coach Stuart Lancaster doing the honours alongside Dave Kearney and Dan Leavy.
There was a smattering of showbiz in the audience as well with Paul Howard, the creator of Uber Leinster Schools Rugby here Ross O\Carroll Kelly in attendance, no doubt refreshing his creative juices for the next book.
