The battle for viewers between Sky Sports and BT Sport is moving towards younger age groups with the launch of ‘Sky Sports Game Changers’, a new live Saturday morning TV show beginning on 17th August.
Game Changers will feature regular appearances from stars involved in the Living for Sport scheme which was launched in Ireland in May fronted by Katie Taylor.
Olympic Gold medallist Darren Campbell will be the main host of the new show which is intended to encourage children to get active and participate in sporting activities.
Among the initial star studded elements will be a series of football masterclasses from David Beckham and a guide to the seven sports in the Heptathlon by Jessica Ennis-Hill.
GB Paralympic wheelchair rugby captain Steve Brown will be among the show’s reporters.
“It’s an ambition of mine to inspire more young people to get active and take part in sport so I’m excited to be one of a great group of athletes contributing to Game Changers and working with Sky who have the passion to make it happen,” said David Beckham at the launch of the programme, the name of which echoes the ‘Game Changer’ theme of BT Sport’s launch advertising campaign.
The show will be broadcast live on Saturday mornings from the Sky Studios in west London. There will be a live studio audience and will follow in a long standing tradition of big Saturday morning live shows aimed at children.
With 75% penetration of pay TV in Ireland as opposed to 55% in Britain, the show is likely to garner a significant audience here with a corresponding pressure on parents without Sky Sports to sign up.
The first show will be seen live as Sky Sports goes free to air for the opening weekend of the Premier League.
