It’s rare that you get to compete alongside your kids in sport or as part of a team but Waterways Ireland has come on board with Triathlon Ireland to encourage just that this summer.
Their backing has enabled the creation of a series of swimming and running events to take place across the summer.
The Waterways Ireland Splash and Dash Series will see kids and adults participate together on the same team in what promises to be an exciting non-competitive event.
The aim is to break down the barriers of participation and allow adults to be positive sporting role models for their kids.
Three events will take place as part of the Waterways Ireland Splash and Dash Series in 2019:
River Barrow, Athy, July 14th
Spencer Dock, Dublin, July 28th
River Erne, Enniskillen, August 11th
The events, which are organised by Triathlon Ireland and local triathlon clubs Athy TC, Activ Multisport and Cuilcagh TC; are supported by Waterways Ireland and will help highlight Ireland’s waterways as places for family activities such as walking, cycling and running.
There will be a familiar face at presentation ceremonies as well with former Head of Sales and Marketing at Liberty Insurance John McDonagh the new Acting CEO at Waterways Ireland.
McDonagh was a key figure in Liberty’s sponsorship of the All Ireland Camogie Championships.
