Sport for Business has been shortlisted in the Innovation in Sponsorship category at the Irish Sponsorship Awards.
We have been recognised for the Partners ’17 event we ran in partnership with Livewire at the National Sports Campus back in April.
The half-day event gave an opportunity to sports and sporting organisations to pitch their ideas for partnership to a room filled with sponsorship professionals from a diverse range of industries and sectors.
It was also a day of learning about what makes a partnership really work.
Damien O’Neill, Sponsorship Manager for Allianz Ireland joined us with Blind Marathon Runner Sinead Kane to talk about the genesis of how their partnership came about and to reveal for the first time the TV advertisement which they created to tell each others story.
The TV ad was only finished at 11pm the night before and rushed to the National Sports Campus for an exclusive first showing to our audience.
John Gillick, Sponsorship Manager for AIG and Edel McCarthy, Sponsorship Manager for Electric Ireland were interviewed on stage about what it is that catches their eye when it comes to sponsorship, revealing that there is always a theme woven behind each of their partnerships and that money is not always the determining factor.
John shared the reasons why AIG were involved with Tennis and Golf as well as Dublin GAA and spoke of their Heroes initiative linking sponsorship partners for social responsibility.
Edel spoke in moving terms about why Electric Ireland partnered with the Darkness into Light walk from an awareness, motivation and social responsibility perspective.
Sixteen members of Sport for Business had three minutes in which to tell their story to the brand managers present.
We worked with them in advance to prepare a presentation that would excite, inspire and hopefully lead to a conversation around commercial support.

The pitches were judged by a panel of experts representing Bank of Ireland, Livewire and Sport for Business.
Cabinteely FC, represented by Chairman Larry Bass won the 2017 Partners Award and has benefited from consultation with Livewire as part of his prize.
Sport for Business partnered with Sponsorship agency Livewire to deliver specific research and analysis on the sponsorship market around the world and specifically in Ireland in 2017.
We rounded off the event with a Q&A featuring Ireland, Lions and Leinster Rugby Legend Rob Kearney and Olympic 400 Metre Hurdler Thomas Barr, together with their agents on how they interact with sponsors, the ways to get the best out of a relationship based on access to the personalities and some stories from when things go wrong as well as right.
It is great to be shortlisted though the opposition is tough with Electric Ireland’s partnership with Team Ireland at the Olympics, Centra’s #WeAreHurling campaign with the GAA, and Sure’s role as the official Statistics Partner of the GAA among those lined up in the same category.
