It is one of the most prestigious school sports competitions in existence and the draw for the Bank of Ireland Leinster Schools Senior and Junior Cups always attracts interest from those who are involved this year but also dating back to previous moments of glory or despair.
The sponsors hosted yesterday’s draw at they Ballsbridge branch and had Fergus McFadden and Jack McGrath along to do the honours.
Both played in the competition during their school days for Clongowes and St Mary’s respectively.
A total of 18 different schools have won the Senior Cup throughout its history but none with such dominance as Blackrock College who will start their journey towards a 70th title in 130 years with a first round tie against Presentation College Bray.
They will also be bidding for a 30th double in the Senior and Junior Cups.
The tie of the opening round is between Belvedere College and Roscrea who won the three previous titles ahead of last year’s.
The dates and locations for the opening rounds of games will be decided later this week.
