It is formally known as the All Ireland Football Championship Quarter Final Group Stage but it has colloquially been adopted as the Super 8’s.
Following the wins of Kildare, Roscommon, Monaghan and Tyrone, three of them having come through the earlier qualifier rounds, we now know the full makeup of the final stages of the Football Championship.
Two teams will emerge from each group after 12 games have replaced the traditional four at this stage. It will add colour to the high summer season and draw big crowds to venues that will never have witnessed games this deep in the Championship season.
Four of those games will take place at Croke Park next weekend with Kerry and Galway going head to head not only with each other but also with the World Cup Final from Russia.
It will be interesting this week to follow the build-up to the games and the work that the GAA will put in through innovation on GAA Now in order to heighten the excitement.
From Batman to Ironman they have painted the teams in the colours of superheroes. It certainly catches the eye.
