TG4 have announced that they will broadcast the World Para Swimming Allianz European Championships taking place in Dublin later this month.
The competition gets underway on Monday, August 13th and runs through for seven days. Heats will take place each day in a morning session starting at 10 AM with the Finals in an Evening Session starting at 5 PM or 6 PM depending on the day.
TG4 will televise the heats on all 7 days on its free to air TV channel while it will stream all of the finals sessions live on the TG4 Player.
“We are delighted that TG4 will show live coverage of Dublin 2018 that will be readily available and accessible for potential viewers throughout the country,” said Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee and CEO of Paralympics Ireland, Miriam Malone.
“This is a historic event for our country as Ireland hosts it’s first ever major international para sporting event. The 400 swimmers that will compete can truly inspire young Irish sports people to follow their sporting dreams and, thanks to TG4, they will be able to see that action from their own living rooms.”
“We are delighted to be broadcasting the World Para Swimming Allianz European Championships live on TG4,” added TG4 Head of Sports, Rónán Ó Coisdealbha.
“Our ‘Súil Eile’, or alternative view, has always brought exciting events and alternative programmes to Irish audiences and this new partnership will ensure that people across the globe will have access to this feast of swimming excellence.”
“We are looking forward to showcasing the top class sporting prowess of these elite athletes and of course we are all hoping that the Irish team can bring home a few medals at the end of the day.”
It was a big day for the Championships as Allianz also signed a partnership agreement with online sports producer Pundit Arena. Read more about that deal here.
The Championships will be streamed live as well on YouTube and via the International Paralympic Committee’s facebook page and website. The evening sessions will be shown as well on the World Para Swimming’s twitter account.
“Dublin 2018 is going to be one of the most exciting Para sport events of the year,” said Craig Spence, the International Paralympic Committee’s Chief Marketing & Communications Officer.
“The European Championships provide the perfect stepping stone for young athletes and almost one hundred swimmers will make their international debut in Ireland.”
“The National Aquatic Centre will also host some of the world’s most decorated Paralympians. There will be plenty of action for the fans attending the event and watching via TV or digital channels.”
Patrick Flanagan, Ellen Keane, Ailbhe Kelly, Barry McClements, Jonathan McGrath, Sean O’Riordan, James Scully and Nicole Turner will be the 8 person Irish team that are set to go for gold.
